OMG it's Michele Barsley. This chick is hilarious, and today she's giving away a signed copy of I'M THE VAMPIRE, THAT'S WHY, which is a fucking hilarious book. All you gotta do is post a comment to this interview between now and Thursday midnight (US EST).Q - Do you drink PEPSI or coke?
A - Neither. Seriously. I don’t drink soda. I like herbal teas.
Q - If you were stuck on a desert island and could only take 3 books – which ones would you choose?
A - What? Only three? Dear God. Blank journal (I’d sneak a pen) so that I could write. A dictionary. A thesaurus.
Q - If Pinky and the Brain ever really did take over the world, what do you think they’d do first?
A - Empty out the cheese vaults. France should tremble in its designer shoes.
Q - Which one of your characters would you most like to give to Nora so that she can kill them off and have Eve investigate their murder?*
A - Hmm. Eve would hate my world since it’s often populated with paranormal characters. I love how she stands for the dead. So, I think I would give her Johnny Angelo, a 1950s movie star who disappeared at the wrap party of his last movie. That might be a hard one to solve considering he was walking around undead.
Q - Do you have any mentors in the romance industry? Tell us about them.
A - Over the years, many writers helped me by giving advice and encouragement. There are a lot of people I owe and I try to pay forward what I was given. I think that’s how it works: The people on the journey ahead of you show you how to avoid pitfalls and show you the scenery and then you turn around and tell the people behind you.
Q - What do you say when confronted with detractors of the ebook industry?
A - There’s no point to confronting detractors of the e-book industry. Why argue with people who’ve made up their minds (and therefore closed them entirely) to new ideas? I made my choice for my career and it was the best decision for me. I love e-books and I’ll be eternally grateful for electronic publishing.
Q - What is your best piece of advice for aspiring authors?
A - Decide why you’re writing. If you want fame and fortune, you might want to seek another career. If you’re obsessed with putting words on a page and you’d do it whether or not your work ever got published—then you’re the kind of writer who’ll see her dream to fruition. Find your passion, commit to it, and never give up.
Q - Why should we read your books over all the other authors out there?
A - Well, hell, you shouldn’t. You should read me and all the other authors out there. There’s plenty of room in a reader’s heart and mind for all of us.
Q - Tell us about your latest release – what’s it about? Where can we buy it?
A - DON’T TALK BACK TO YOUR VAMPIRE comes out on July 3, 2007 and it will be available at your local bookstore (or at penguin.com). This is the second story in my Broken Heart Vampires series about undead moms. In this novel, the heroine is Eva LeRoy, town librarian, Turn-blood, and mother to a teenage daughter (who is in her Goth phase). The hero is the yummy and tormented 4,000-year-old vampire and Druid, Lorcan O’Halloran. They have issues … mainly because he, y’know, killed her.
And remember, my novel is cheaper than HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HOLLOWS. LOL!
